Q:
How do you say this in English (US)? bonjour
A:
No it’s not (just) good morning. They are not exact equivalents. As you know, “bonjour” is said not just in the morning BUT ALSO in the afternoon. “Good morning” is not. We say hello at any time of day, but including in the morning and afternoon. So “hello” is the most generically appropriate equivalent. You CAN say “good morning” or “good afternoon,” but it is not “required” the way, eg, “bonsoir” is “required” after a certain hour.
