"in the square" sounds off to me too, we don't use "square" like that much

I think all except the first are correct. I would say, “I saw my brother in the square” because in a social context “ran into” means that you met him by chance, but you only saw him at a distance.

Number 3 isn’t wrong, but my first thought was that Brenda physically collided with you. To me, it would sound more natural to say, “I ran into Brenda....” When someone runs into you, it sounds like an accident or crash.
