A: Hello,

This is a phrase not often used. I'm a native speaker but I had to look it up to make sure it meant what I thought it did. I can't recall using it more than once in my life-time.

As you probably know, it means that the outcome of something isn't going to turn out well.

I guess if I bought a car that looked bad the sentence would be: 'I should've seen the writing on the wall when I bought that car'.

Or 'my friends told me he wasn't a good guy but I didn't see the writing on the wall' - you didn't see what was obvious, that the guy wasn't going to be a good boyfriend/friend.

I hope that helps a bit :)

Synonyms of "Writing" and their differences

Q: What is the difference between slow down your writing and slow your writing down and speed your writing up and speed up your writing ?
A:

There is no difference. SLOW UP/DOWN and SPEED UP/DOWN are separable phrasal verbs which means you have the option of keeping the two words together or not.
Q: What is the difference between slow down your writing and slow your writing down and speed your writing up and speed up your writing ?
A: Each pair of phrases means the same thing.
Slow down your writing means exactly the same as Slow your writing down.

In some phrasal verbs you can put the subject in the middle.

We will clean up the house.
We will clean the house up.

Q: What is the difference between I love your beautiful writing and I love your beautiful writings ?
A: The first sentence means that you love someone's writing in general. The second sentence sounds like it is referring to specific things that the person has written.
Q: What is the difference between writing and composition and essay ?
A: All three words would technically be correct in those sentences, though they all have different connotations and more specific definitions.

In most cases, an essay would refer to a short piece of writing on a particular subject, such as an essay a student must write for school, or an article on a newspaper or website.

A writing is a very vague and general word that can refer to any formation of words or even just sentences. A more formal expression would be “a written work” as opposed to “writing.” In the case of your example, while it certainly would be correct, I just say “Could you please correct this for me” considering the writing that “this” refers to is about to be seen by your listener/reader, so it is very understood and therefore redundant to use a vague and general term.

The word composition can have many different connotations to it, such as in a school setting where a teacher requires compositions on something in particular as homework for their students. This use might work for your sentences since the thing you are writing is probably just for English practice and not meant to actually make a point, evoke a feeling, or tell a story, and that makes perfect sense with “composition.”

Keep In mind that a composition can also refer specifically to a musical piece, or a song. For example: “Mozart’s classical compositions are so soothing to my ears.”

To make things simple, I would personally say to use a word that specifically describes the type of writing you are talking about.

If it’s a letter, say “Will you correct my letter?”

If it’s writing practice, say “Will you correct these practice sentences I wrote.”

If it’s a story, you could say something like “Would you correct my story’s grammar?”
Q: What is the difference between writing down and jotting down ?
A: They both mean basically the same thing, except 'jotting down' is usually for writing something quickly or only writing a few words, while 'writing down' is also used for longer pieces.

Example: I need to jot down a quick note to myself.

Example: Keeping a journal means writing down the details of your day.

Q: I made a writing about "Weather language change one's personality or not."
Could you check it and tell me where it is wrong?

I agree with the idea that personality will be changed by language. I have two reasons to say so.
First each language has original words. So some words in one language cannot translate in another words. It is also said that it is limited to show our feelings in one language, so people’s personality is what they can show in their language.
Second language itself means its country. For example, Japanese people are said that they don’t say what they think truly, and there are many unclear words in Japanese. It can be said in other languages.
Those who use many languages also use many personalities that make it easy to get along with other countries.
A: Whether Language changes someone’s personality.

I agree with the idea that personality will be changed by language, for two reasons.
First reason being is that each language has its original words. So some words in one language cannot translate whatsoever into another language. It is also said that it is limited to show our feelings in one language, so people’s personality is what they can show in their language to express themselves.
The second reason is that language itself means its country. For example, Japanese people are said that they don’t say what they think truly, and there are many unclear words in Japanese. It can also be said in other languages too.
Those who use many languages also use many personalities that make it easy to get along with other countries.

After the show, I went to Mart to buy Tofu and sauce. Since he enjoyed it so much, I couldn't help buying tofu and sauce.
