    2. I feel that in anglophone societies, Latin has a very interesting role! We definitely consider it to be a dead language, because to us a language is dead when there are no more native speakers. However, Latin is still taught in many schools in English-speaking countries, so we can't call it extinct. Latin is of course associated with the Roman culture, and it is also tied to glory and dignity in general. The United States' traditional national motto is in Latin. As English borrows much of its vocabulary from French, Latin is very useful in etymology and building our personal vocabularies as well! However I know there is debate as to whether or not teaching Latin in anglophone nations is useful. I personally see Latin as a very complex language that is worth studying, since it is impossible to fully understand a culture without a grasp of how they spoke.
