Question about English (US)

Recently, I see a lot of posts and comments writing "out of one's league" or "within one's league". Is there a specific source ( a movie or an episode from a TV series maybe? ) for it? And what is its actual meaning? ( as far as I understand it, the description refers to someone that you are interested in, but she/he is somehow "superior" than you? )
