"Terry looked over his shoulder and saw Marcy behind them, halted at the edge of the parking lot, her face a study in agonized bewilderment."

In the sentence above, I am not sure about the meaning of the word "study."
My guess is "an amusing or remarkable thing or person," or "a thing or person that is an embodiment or good example of something."

It's from "The Outsider" by Stephen King.
