Question about English (US)

What is the difference between developing countries and underdeveloped countries?
Feel free to just provide example sentences.

I used "developing countries" to describe countries that are not developed ones in an English class, but my teacher (she is American) corrected it and said to
me that "underdeveloped countries" was better. Nevertheless, Oxford Dictionary of English says "developing countries" is now the usual expression. Which expression is better, after all?
