erschrecken: either "to be/get scared" or "to scare sb."
aufschrecken: hard to translate to be honest, something like "to startle", often refering to a person either resting or even sleeping, which is awoken (and scared/startled) due to something

@tfecha64 Yeah, that's a correct sentence. I don't think it contradicts anything I said to be honest. "resting" is a very general term for "remaining in one position" or "not moving" as well, and not limited to "sleeping" or similar states.
