Question about United States
I'm planning to apply to a university in the USA, so i was looking for the application deadlines, start of the semesters etc
I found a timeline on the internet that says that there's more than a whole year between the date of application and the date of (dis)approval by the university.
Does it really take that long or did i just not understand it?
Thanks!

If you are ready to graduate and looking at applying to a university for fall 2019 then there should not be a whole year between the date of application deadlines.

It depends on the university and I would email the schools you are interested in. In most cases the earlier you apply the better the chances of getting accepted if you are wait listed. Some schools you can get accepted with a GPA/SAT score. I got into my school for those requirements and did not have to fill out essays etc.

@gbenally11 I will be graduating in may/june 2019 from a german school, i was planning to take the SAT/ACT Test at approximately the same time.
The university's website says the application deadline will be in fall 2019 while the decisions are gonna be released in may 2020....
I don't even know how to apply for fall 2019 since i do not know my test scores yet and it seems as if all the universities already want to see those...

Yes, the universities in the US want to see those scores and I would definitely plan to take the ACT and SAT at least a month or earlier before you are looking to apply because after you take the test it takes at least a month after to get your results

and about the whole application deadline and decision process..
I can look into it for you if you would like me to

@gbenally11 that'd be great! I was reading up about the ivy league universities and chose harvard as an example.
Here are some links:
https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/apply/ap...
https://meded.hms.harvard.edu/admissions-timeli...
Everything seems pretty overwhelming to me since i don't even know about all those abbreviations and documents and the application process in Germany is much easier than all of this....

@gbenally11 oh, when are you going to take your SATs/ACTs/whatever?
- Country or region United States
So, Harvard requires a ACT or SAT test(with or without writing) and two SAT Subject Tests. They have a $75 application fee. If you apply by January 1 than you should have an admissions decision from them by March. When you start the application, give them self reported ACT or SAT scores and if they do accept you then they will ask for Official scores. That's pretty much what I can get for you from the website but you're going to have more questions so when you do it's best to e-mail an admissions officer from Harvard which you can most likely find on the website you provided me with.

I have already taken the ACT but I'm not satisfied with my score so I am going to retake in February which is the next test date and I ready a little bit more on the website and I kind of think you may be late on applying for the fall 2019 because you haven't yet taken the ACT/SAT which is required for the fall 2019 application. So I think you should email the admissions officer ASAP.

@gbenally11 thanks a lot!
The thing is that i won't get an appointment for the SAT/ ACT or the toefl test before February and I'm going to participate in some kind of competition in April/may and i was planning to add my results to my application as well so i won't be able to apply by January 1.
Do you know anything about the deadlines for spring semester 2020?

@gbenally11 oh, so there's one certain date for the ACT/SAT and if you're not satisfied you can retake several times?
- Country or region United States
No I don't know anything about the spring semester deadlines but most likely it'll be around August to October and yes if you are not satisfied with your results then you can retake it. You will just have to reapply and pay another application fee. The application fee for the ACT is $30

@gbenally11 aah i see, then good luck :) , thanks for your help! August - october would be fine i guess!
