Question about English (US)

This is a extract from my textbook.

Our Inability to do things exist because we tend to think pessimistic rather than optimistic of the things we can do long before we do it.

"think pessimistic rather than optimistic of the things we can do long"
I do't understand clearly this part. "think about pessimistic ………" is correct?
or this sentence is grammartically correct?
