Question about Filipino

When do I know when I should use “ako” vs “ko?”
I noticed that there are some sentences that with both pronouns still mean I, but from my understanding I always thought “ko” meant “my” and not “I.”
For example:

Pumapasok ako sa apartment.

Binubuksan ko ang ilaw.

If both mean I, “I enter” and “I turn on” why is one “ko” and the other “ako?”
