Question about Japanese

How do you say this in Japanese? what meaning does 「〜がある」 add to the sentence below?

「人気があるオーストリアの食べ物」. My textbook says it translates to “popular Australian food” but I don’t understand how at all, mostly because I don’t understand what the 〜がある means.
* Just in case it makes a difference the full sentence I took this from is 「てんけいてきな日本の食べ物と人気があるオーストリアの食べ物」
