Question about English (UK)

I've come across a few situations in which verbs usually requiring a reflexive construction to express that someone does it themselves were used without a reflexive pronoun.I like to wash/wash myself,he wants to integrate/integrate himself, people want to learn how to defend/defend themselves. in that martial arts school. Is there no differnece in the examples above?
