は just marks the topic
for example
私はジャービスです
watashi wa jaabisu desu
I am Jarvis
The topic comes before は in this case (私・わたし・watashi) = I
I is the topic cause i am talking about myself
anything before は is the topic

はis an article which is called KAKARIJOSHI 係助詞(けいじょし、かかりじょし)in Japan. What particle it is a nonsense for you, I am afraid.
There is no word for this in English.
It emphasizes the meaning of a word, a phrase, a sentence.
私は本を読む I read a book
Watashi-wa hon-wo yomu.
私は本を読まない I don’t read any book.
Watashi-wa hon-wo yomanai.
私は本は読まない (I do anything but) I don’t read any book. Watashi-wa hon-wa yomanai.
本は読むものだ: A book is something to reading.
