"Quasi" means "semi / partly" or "not really."
"Quasi" is not a word on its own. It's a prefix that's always attached to another word. It's "common" in that I wouldn't expect to hear it once a day or even once a week but it's definitely not unusual.
examples:
"She's only a quasi-friend so I'm not inviting her."
"Don't believe that quasi-science!"
"I'm only quasi-watching this movie so I might as well turn it off."
