"Conseguir" significa "poder hacer algo que es difícil".
Comer 12 uvas con el reloj es difícil. Si tú puedes comer todas las uvas, "consigues" comer todas las uvas. Es un mérito.
"La gente come 12 uvas" es una frase normal, no indica ningún mérito.

La diferencia es que cuando se coloca "conseguir" se debe a que tuvieron que encontrarlas, buscarlas y después las comieron
