I am guessing it is hard for American car companies to sell in Japan due to the government not allowing them a fair market in where the Japanese people can buy their cars without prejudice. It is also hard to compete with non-union wages and shipping costs. If an American car company could manufacture in Japan using Japanese workers in a fair market it might be different.
