Is Christmas a big holiday in Korea?
Is Christmas a big holiday in Korea?
I've just read this blog post and I'm wondering if this is still valid for the present year. Is it true that Koreans don't care about Christmas as much as people in western countries do? Is it still like the person described in the post?
---------------------------
Here's the blog post:
"I lived in Korea for a number of years and spent two Christmases in the country. As an American, I was well aware that December 25th is Christmas, but when I left my apartment on Christmas day in Korea, I saw nothing to indicate that it was a holiday.
No decorations. No gifts. Nobody wishing you a "Merry Christmas". Stores didn't advertise it. I didn't hear Christmas music. And there certainly wasn't any Christmas food.
Mind you I lived in Korea during 2005 and 2006, so it has been 10 years. It just wasn't a thing."

We usually go outdoor to eat food or enjoy with family instead of stay in the Apartment. In department stores and shopping malls, build Xmas trees and decorate and Played carols, but not many houses in Korea play carols in Apartment. some neighbors don't invite too many relatives in their homes. It's a terrible idea because Most homes are Really Really sensitive to making noise. Therefore, we tend to stay so quiet that don't even know who's stayed at home on the anniversary.
Also, we decorate inside the house but not much the front door. That may be why the blogger hasn't seen and heard it. Bloggers seem to think we don't celebrate it just because they don't see or hear it. If Blogger's house wasn't a soundproof apartment, It has to be that. It seems that They were in the wrong place at the wrong time... Well, even if you've lived for two years in Here, you don't get to know us completely without observation skill. Blogger probably only body here, and the head was American.
