Question about French (France)

Hello, I am a beginner in French and I am confused with the use of “de”, here’s an example: when saying “alcohol and water”, I said “l’alcool et l’eau”, but Duolinguo corrected me to “De l’alcool et de l’eau”, could someone please explain it to me ? Thank you very much !
