Question about English (US)

This is a part of my graduation thesis.

I researched that whether how to compliment in American English change depends on the human relationships. Compliment here means people tell other person that positive evaluation and promote conversation or be more harmonious relations.A previous study shows that compliments in American English are formulaic in nature(Manes& Wolfson,1981) but whether Americans distinguish some patterns of compliments depending on human relationships or not is not clear so I researched that.
does this sound natural?
