neuter - formal word for any animal (male and female). Never used for people.
sterilize - similar to neuter, but also can be used for people in a formal medical context.
have (it) fixed, get (it) fixed - casual word for any animal, but mostly pets (male or female). Not used for people, unless in a joking way (if you get a vasectomy you can say you “got fixed”)
castrate - to remove testicles from a male human or animal. Often used for farm animals.
