It is difficult to conceive of an affluent society which is not a society organized for consumption.

Can you deduct what the writer want to say with the sentence?
If so, how much time did you spend deducting the sentence?

I think the main idea of the writer is that When a society is organized for consumption, the society will be affluent. In other words, a society has to be organized for consumption.

The reason I asked this question to you is that the time i spent deducting this main idea is not little.
