‎Lobotomy means to take a surgical procedure in the brain focosed on severing nerve fibres. Antonio Egoz was the first person (who set about/who tried out) this kind of technology.
He thought that (wrongly) connected nerve fibres result in (a) mental illness like depression sleep disorder und so on.
So if he would serve those nerve fibres it might be able that the fibers would recombine. Antonio drilled his patients a hole in their heads on the right and left side and destroyed the nerve fibers with a metal rod.
1949 he got a nobel prize for medical science even though he destroyed a lot of lives. In the early 1940s Walten Fremen an american psychiatrist and James Wingston a neurosurgeon simplified the technique.
They stabbed past the eyes with a thin ice axe (to penetrate/to force one's way) into the brain. The whole intervention took less than 30 minutes and didn't need a surgeon, (this is why/which is why) he traveled through america in his caravan till 1967, destroying about 2,000 lives with this technique, if they survived at all.
