@ameria "I tried to do my homework" would be best! "I made an attempt to do my homework" is probably the most formal, and would sound a bit strange! ☆

"try" is more informal, but they are almost the same!
"I tried to do my homework"
"I attempted to do my homework"
But "attempt" is often used as a noun!
"I made an attempt to do my homework"
