Yeah, most people have at least one middle name. We usually just use the initial letter, not the full middle name, except in official documents. It's been that way for a long time.

In my family - and many others - the middle name is usually from an older family member. My middle name is my aunt's name.

It's a way of telling apart lots of people with the same name, really. I've worked in offices that identify staff members by their initials... people who don't have a middle name have to use 'X' to fill the space as it's expected that there will be three letters.

Also, you don't have to use your first name - you can choose to use your middle name if you prefer. It's almost a way to give your child options ^_^
