Sorry this isn't an answer, but let me know if you figure it out. I took several linguistic classes where they attempt to explain the X-BAR theory, & I STILL don't get it :/

Xbar theory is a theory in syntax to visuallt demonstrate how words are connected to each other. Its about a hierarchy of words and phrases and how they relate to each other in a sentence. For example the "very tall and handsome man". Is the man very tall and very handsome? Or is he very tall and only kind of handsome? Xbar theory shows us which meaning is correct
