Question about English (US)

I'm working with a friend on a term paper. Long story short, puzzling out a thesis statement for the paper. How does this sound? Critique it to pieces... grammar, structure, readability, fluidity, all are fair game. ^_^

In both The Snows of Kilimanjaro and The Stranger, we see the protagonists struggling to come to grips with a reality beyond their immediate control, a nonsensical reality thrust suddenly into the context of their otherwise tolerable lives. Themes of regret and absurdity are woven into both short stories as the authors pose grave questions about morality and authenticity in the characters' final days. Several parallels can be drawn between the two stories, but analyzing the fine contrasts that separate these two masterpieces allows us to construct a philosophical framework that is at once touching and wistful.
