what does discipline mean when used this way for example when someone says taking cold showers requires discipline does it have to do with training In case it has other meanings I am open to hear more about your examples thanks beforehand.

you have to discipline yourself because taking a cold shower is yikes. it means it takes a lot of mental strength, practice, etc.
when you discipline a child, you're "punishing" them when they do something bad. when you discipline yourself it's kinda similar. you are making yourself take the cold shower even when your body freaks out.
