Question about English (US)

Why do we use "be appointed" in this sentence?
"Mr. Brown asked that a trustee BE APPOINTED to take control of the company"

It was in my English test. I had to give the correct tense to fit each gap.
"Mr. Brown asked that a trustee (appoint)..... to take control of the company"
I did in my test with the tense "WAS APPOINTED", but my teacher corrected it to "BE APPOINTED". Can you explain it to me, please?
Thank you in advance.
