"Farther" is a real, physical distance.
"I walked farther today than yesterday."
"Further" is more.... metaphorical. It is not a *real* distance.
"I will push myself to succeed even further than before!"
"Please don't talk to me any further..."
"You think teaching is easy? Nothing is further from the truth!"
("Further" is abstract.)
