Question about Italian

When should I use "in" and "in + article"? I try to associate it with Spanish (my native language) since they're pretty similar, but I find this a little different.

Some examples:

Non ho niente in cucina -> Could this be "Non ho niente nella cucina"?

Ho una caramella in tasca -> Is it possible to say "nella mia tasca"?
