Question about English (US)

In a movie, a dad goes to see his toddler's room in the morning to check if the baby is well. The father says,
"Hiya. Will you, big buddy, huh?"

What does will you mean? Does not this sound unnatural to English native speakers?
You may think it indicates 'will you wake up?', but the toddler was sitting in the playpen playing himself.
