Yo creo que ambas son validas, entre el español de España y el de Latinoamerica, solo varían algunas palabras o expresiones,

Puedes aprender cualquiera. Te recomendaría que aprendas el que más fácil se te haga, ya sea por cuestión de pronunciación o por el acento. Puede ser que te sea más fácil entender a un latinoamericano que a un español o viceversa. Al final lo que importa es que si realmente aprendes español, deberías ser capaz de entender a cualquier nativo sea éste de España o de Latinoamérica
