What is the difference between mai3dan1 = pay the bill and jie2zhang4= pay the bill ?Feel free to just provide example sentences.

From my understanding, you only use maidan to refer to paying at the restaurant, correct but jiezhang can be used anywhere? I guess jiezhang is more specifically used to refer to paying the bill in general?

They are the same, but at the restaurant we use maidan more often.
