Question about France
How does French naming system work?
I've just stumbled upon Emmanuel Macron's Wikipedia page, and I found out that his complete name is Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron. However, his father's name is Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron (Macron is the surname). So, does that mean that the French append the name of their parents to the name of their children?
Why did I ask? I noticed *almost* the same thing in Arabic naming system. Like for example, if I'm an Arab,I'll have my name, then I'll have "ibn <name of my father>", then "ibn <name of my father's father>", then "al-<family name>". This sort of thing wherein the parents' name gets appended to the children's name. Is there a sort of similar thing in France?
TL;DR: Read the first sentence.

It is not a rule. You can only have one name and one surname.
However you can also have more names, and It often happen to be an hommage to your parents grand-parents or a grand-grand parents.
But it is always the choice of the parents, not a real law.
For instance, I personnally have my own name, a second one that is another name my parents liked and that is close to the name of the mother of my dad's dad, and the name of the mother of my dad's mother.
Statistically, the richer your family is, the more you'll be expected to have names ;-)

In my family it's the godfather and godmother which give the second and third names of the child. So it's a christian thing. Some people just have one name, or the grandparent's one like @Hkorrigan sayed.
