Question about English (US)
What kind of verb should I use with “rather than”?
Some say the verb that comes after “rather than” should have the same tense as that comes before “rather than”, but from what I read in the dictionary, no matter what, the verb tense should only be either the base form or the ving form.

That rule for using the base form or the -ing form is when "Rather than" is at the start of a sentence.
But when "rather than" comes in the middle of the sentence you have to match the tenses before and after.
Hope that helped!
