Is my understanding of “would have” correct?

1. Used in hypothetical situation:

10 years ago, If you shouted at your teacher, you would have been caned.

2. Used to say sth opposite of the fact in the past.

If you had shouted at your teacher back there, you would have been caned. I am glad you didn’t do that.
