Question about English (US)
I sometimes see people saying their name first when answering the call in American movies or shows. Is it common not to say something like “hello” or “how are you?” first but say your name when answering the call?

Some people answer with just their name. It is not common. Skipping "hello" and "how are you" seems like something a busy, cold businessperson might do.
The phone manners in movies are abbreviated to save screentime for more interesting things.
Did you notice in movies they also hang up without saying goodbye? Nobody does that. It would be rude and confusing.

@Rwood It's common to answer a business phone with...
(name of business). (name of person) speaking. How may I help you?
When we answer our personal phone, we say, "Hello.".
Some people will answer with, "(name of person) speaking. It's not very common. It sounds kinda cold and not very friendly.
