Question about English (US)

1) Does "pick up some milk" mean buy lots of milk?

I've seen sentences like this a lot ("While you're out, pick up some milk"), but I've always wondered how many cartons of milk they're referring to.

2) If I just want one carton of milk, is it okay to say "Pick up one carton of milk on your way here"?
