When I traveled to India one year, I had to sign a customs form promising not to bring prohibited items, one of which was an inaccurate map of India. Any idea what that's about? I thought about this went I started looking into reprinting for myself a public domain book from 1970 which has a map of India.

A list like this is on a form they give you as you are flying in. If I had to guess, I would think this has something to do with Kashmir.

Well, it is obvious that you would get into trouble if you bring anything prohibited and I went to that link, well those things are prohibited so that if you don't get into trouble or cause any trouble for the system & citizen won't think of you as a lunatic. & if you bring an inaccurate map of India, it will:
1) Cause you trouble regarding where you are.
2) Enrage citizens if the boundaries are incorrect & they see the map
