As an adjective for people:
fantasque = qui suit sa fantaisie = fanciful
capricieux = qui est sujet Ă des changements brusques = capricious ;-)
"fantasque" implies an idea of freedom, whereas "capricieux" 'd rather convey the opposite:
"Une personne fantasque" follows her imagination, her impulses, whereas "une personne capricieuse" is lead by her changing moods and desires.
The second meaning of fantasque is unpredictable, capricious!
