Question about English (US)

I'd like to ask about the use of 'occasion'. Is 'occasion' only used to mean a special time or event, or can it also mean any time or setting?

For example, is the use of 'occasion' in the following correct? "The verb 'reassure' means an 'occasion' that somebody is doing something that makes another person less worried."

Thank you.
