悲しみを紛らわす sticks more closely to "drown one's sorrows"

You can also say 気を紛らわす(distract oneself/one's mind)
It can be used about not only sorrows but all sorts of negative feelings.

Just for your information:
紛らわす essentially means "to hide something in something else".
i.e.
[negative feelings]+を紛らわす
--> to hide [negative feelings] in [positive feelings].
So, usually, when people say it, the coping can't be the fundamental solution but the stopgap solution.
紛らわす can be said as 紛らす, 紛らせる or 紛らわせる, but I think 紛らわす is the most common.
