Yes, although not particularly about only one other country or region. There are two categories for history classes in high school: Japanese history and World history. The latter teaches the overall flow of the world like beginning from primitive men and then Egypt & Mesopotamia and then Greece and Roman Empire while Chinese, Indian, Persian etc. dynasties in the East bla bla bla until the post WWII. Both are taught in basic level for everyone but detailed education is only given for those who chose them. Usually we choose 1 or 2 from geography / J.history / W.history / politics & economics /ethics & philosophy etc., so some students choose neither history classes (I was also one of them I chose geography).
