Question about English (US)

Hello guys, I looked for the meaning/s of the phrase "to get a hold of" and one of the meanings that popped up was
" to grasp (something) intellectually; understand."

So it can be used with intellectual problems too?
Ex:
"I can't get a hold of this math problem."
