Question about English (US)

do you say "desert's dune" and "ocean's wave" as opposed to "desert wave" "ocean wave" ?

I thought it is correct to use apostrophe possession for an inanimate when they have a adjective in between as in "the dessert's biggest dune" "the ocean's massive wave" etc. isn't it?
