Question about English (US)

none or neither

I am studying English and trying to solve grammar question: I asked two men the way to the stadium, but ( )of them could help me.

I thought the answer was " neither", but looking at model answer, it says "none".

I thought that we should use none about more than two people, use neither about 2 people. So I can't understand the model answer.

what the difference? Could you kindly tell me the usage of none and neither?
