Question about English (US)

I have a question.
"There is also a factor that I didn’t know was important in your life: luck."
I'm quite sure there's no problem about this sentence.
Could you tell me whether this sentence would still be correct if you put "if" or "whether" between "I didn't know" and "was important", please?
"There is also a factor that I didn’t know if/whether was important in your life: luck."
