You say this at the beginning of a sentence when you’re attempting to comfort someone who’s sad or upset. You’re essentially saying “I know this may not make you feel better but I think this.
examples:
- “For what it’s worth, I think you deserved that spot in the play.”
- “for what it’s worth, I think you did amazing.”
I didn’t explain it that well let me know if you have any questions haha

@D_Kim If you add for what it's worth to something that you say, you are suggesting that what you are saying or referring to may not be very valuable or helpful, especially because you do not want to appear arrogant.

Then,
If my friend bought a second hand car and she overpaid for it as the seller ripped her off, then I could say
‘For what it’s worth, the car looks nice’ to comfort her.
Did I get it correctly ??

@D_Kim yes, though a more natural way of saying it would be “for what it’s worth, it’s a nice-looking car.”
