Question about English (US)

Hello guys
Can you help me with the following sentence?
1) "He was healthy, relatively handsome, and had had more than his fair share of happiness and comfort growing up".

Instead of "had had" is it would be grammatically correct if I write "has had", right? and I'm not sure if the "growing up" is correct, I think at the beginning, the sentence is on present perfect, so, to go to gerund it was necessary to write something between "comfort" and "growing up", right? Maybe "While he was growing up"
